La Griglia – new Italian
2002 West Gray
With a lively, festive atmosphere, La Griglia offers guests a delicious display of New Italian dining. La Griglia means “the grill,” and most of the food here is grilled at one of two huge grills located in the center of the restaurant. Colorful Italian murals and busy mosaics provide a playful, whimsical ambience while fresh fish, creative pastas, chicken, beef and fresh vegetables tempt guests with an array of fabulous choices. La Griglia is one of Bill's favorite Houston restaurants.
A Houston classic since 1938, this traditional diner serves up country breakfasts at all hours of the day; soda fountain malts, milkshakes and floats (made with Texas-proud Blue Bell ice cream, of course); plus diet-breaking diner specialties. Grandmother-approved blue plate specials include grilled pork chops, fried chicken, homemade meat loaf, roast turkey with dressing, and chicken and dumplings served with cornbread or rolls made fresh daily. Burgers, hot dogs and hearty diner sandwiches are all customer favorites. Don't miss the fresh squeezed lemon or limeade served in the mixing can -- perfect for quenching a summer thirst.
The waitstaff all have the year they started working at the diner embroidered on their uniforms.

Look for a curious mix of West U yuppies, blue-collar 'cue fans, Rice students and Montrose bohos.
