My best moment of luxury is swiming in a glacier lake in August
By lawrence.p.scott

When the word luxury is spoken - I think of the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans. The city is like none other in the world and the hotel is the same. We try to go at least 1 or 2xs a year. Katrina did damage to the hotel but it was up and running soon after and we were one of the first ones back. The "Thanksgiving" and "Christmas Holidays" are quite an experience and a delight. We have met many wonderful people staying on the club level where you become part of an extended family. Sometimes we f

My moment of luxury was 30years ago living next door to Bill and his family in our first house. After working in the yard one Saturday, we decided to pool our dinners and eat together. When we walk across the driveway, the wonderland starts. The table is set outside with a beautiful cloth, candles, fine china and a center piece. I was really in awe. It was so fun. I learned alot from them in the year and a half we lived there.

My best moment of Luxury is arriving to my beautiful apartment everyday after work. I am a social Worker therefore I always decorate based on a budget. It would be nice to have a decoration show that shows how luxury is about beauty and good taste and it could also be at the reach of those who don't make six figure salaries.

Believe it or not my moment has not come yet.I am about to change my den into a true library- what i am most looking forward to is to curl up on the built in seat made of soft chenille with silk pillows-CLOSE THE DOOR-- and get lost in the pages of one of my favorite books.I may even sound proof the room!!

I've had many moments of luxury, but one of my most memorable moments was listening to a jazz group and sipping a delightful Chardonnay while walking along the beach in Pacifica, CA while watching the sun set.

My favorite Moment of Luxury memory is staying at the Couer de Loges Hotel in Lyon, France and walking barefoot down the cool marble stairs in my bathrobe to the spa/sauna one night at midnight. The remainder of the hotel was quiet and I felt very pampered:-). The lovely staff had heated the sauna for me and it was awaiting my arrival!

True luxury for me, is walking out onto my terrace after a long day, and relaxing in the serenity, looking out at the view of the whole city of San Diego, CA, beyond the canyon, filled with bird songs and lush natural chapparal. The quiet, serene feeling is the most luxurious thing I know in the hectic world of 2008. I built my dream home and moved in, 10/2006. I have been in heaven ever since. The terrace is covered in porcelain tile, 20" x 20" squares, set on a diagonal. I sit in my classi

There are so many details that bring joy to my life. Some of these include high thread count sheets and that are then ironed, a good laugh with a friend, my babies sweet sloppy kisses, dinner at Casa Tua in Miami with someone you Love, anything from Hermes, a massage on the beach in St. Barth and oh I could go on and on and on.

By ELENA GANOZA

Just returned from a five week trip to Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima, Peru. Our most fabulous treat was visiting the CASA GARCIA ALVARADO in Miraflores, Lima, Peru. Our private dining with a few friends was an incredible taste of exquisite Peruvian food (with Pisco Sours, of course)along with visiting the historic early 20th century mansion with host; Ana Maria Garcia de Astudillo. For me, it was a "don't miss" luxurious afternoon.

One of my favorite moment(s) of luxury---when guests come to visit & stay longer (perhaps an hour; perhaps several days) than planned because they want to relax & enjoy our friendship time together. Sometimes the most luxurious time(s) of all are sipping a delicious cup of tea and chatting long after breakfast is over. Another is when my sister and I give each other a day at a spa for our respective birthday presents & then we go together. No guilt because we are each enjoying a gift---yet we

As a travel writer, II adore the idea and locales of your show. But the dialogue simply doesn't do you justice. Last night, at dinner in Peru, there were 5 "wonderfuls" to capture the many-splendored sunset, the exotic fusion cuisine and stimulating companions. Hate to be just critical. So, can I be of help? Much success, Esther Gordon

Years ago, I got to stay with friends for a weekend in a Woolworth heir's Manhattan apartment, where Paul Newman also had an apartment and where Ruby Keeler came over for cocktails. Coming across a fabulous sentence in an old book of fiction and knowing instantly it should be passed on to someone --- in this case, you: "Yes, in spite of these things the room had an appearance of style in the sense that a defective work of art may still have style because whoever created it has been able to set on it the seal as of a superior personality."

I have always been "thrifty" and when divorced and a den mother/scout leader made good use of anything discarded. Since having good employment in following years, I still followed my own muses and I have kept an oil painting that my dad bought (Charles Vicary) when I was still in grade school. I frequented art fairs back in the Chicago area (even with 4 kids in HS and college) and commissioned a piece. When I moved to AZ, I moved only things that were important to me, but some great stuff! If you haven't seen them already, you should come to French Lick, Indiana to see both renovated hotels in this area. They are spectacular! Both were built in the early 1900s, and they are absolutely gorgeoous. One has a domed roof which was considered the 8th Wonder of the World in the early 1900s. You won't be disappointed if you come to French Lick, Indiana. Believe me!

I just watched your episode focused on auctions, at Sotheby's in New York. My first job out of university was at Sotheby's in New York as a "floater". I had spent five years as an intern at various Sotheby's offices prior to that first real job. I went on to work at a small auction house in Connecticut once I got married, and learned a great deal there. The next step in my career was at House Beautiful , where I was an Associate Style Editor under Dara Caponigro and Elizabeth Mayhew. While at th

This past summer I had the opportunity to attend a benefit at the Grey Gardens mansion in East Hampton, New York. I walked into the solarium and peared through the diamond payned doors on to a glorious garden. It was a moment that was truly luxurious. And, I then could understand why the Beale's would not leave the property. Hence, when "Little Edie" sold the property she would not sell it to anyone who would destroy it. That truly to me epitimizes the true value to luxury. P.S. I love this show

How in the world could you feature someone with seven children? What is wrong with you???? I have two and would not think of having more... how is she providing for them????Our American dollar??? Please think of our economy before you put these examples forward. Some people live off the goverment and I do not think we should be high-lighting them. Our country is at war, don't think we can do what we want... we have to pay for what we do.

I really don't have a Moment of Luxury, however, as I was watching a 2009 episode of the show with Bunny Williams in Falls Village, I wondered why Bill never visited "The Last Post" a retirement home for cats established by the first lady of radio chatter, Pegeen Fitzgerald, in 1982. Wouldn't it be fun to decorated The Last Post in a very fancy style for the cats that live out their lives there?

It's enjoying the Sylvia Beach Hotel, a rustic coastal getaway in Newport, Oregon. No fancy chandeliers (though I like them), nothing grandiose, but the rooms are amazing. Each room is designed to memorialize an author. From Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss, Poe to Colette, and more, the atmosphere is comforting and a joy. Guests enjoy tasty and healthy meals (vegetarians can be served on request), and the ambience really suggests a rural European guest house. I get to visit this hotel once a year for t
